Element Composite uses the same carbon and Technora membrane base as our E-Tech Composite, but adds Lite Skin, a lightweight, non-woven outer layer, to one or both sides of the sail. This added skin increases durability and abrasion resistance, making Element the top choice for boats tackling serious offshore miles. Structurally, Element performs just like E-Tech, offering exceptional shape retention, flat flying shapes, and high-angle performance—but with added protection for furling, sail handling, and long-term use in more demanding conditions.
Element can also be built with a Structured Luff, allowing racers to carry flatter shapes at higher angles with reduced tack loads. This configuration is especially valuable for J0s and tight-reaching Code Zeros, giving offshore programs a high-performance, tight-angle sail with minimal compromise.
Who Should Use Element Composite
Element is ideal for racers competing in offshore and endurance events like Transpac, Transatlantic, or Pac Cup where Code Zeros need to perform across changing conditions and last under heavy use. It’s the right choice for boats that want the structure and shape of a membrane, but need added protection against furling friction, UV exposure, and wear. The optional Structured Luff configuration makes Element equally capable of powering a J0 or a wide-range reaching sail while maintaining control, shape, and clean furling.
What Are the Limitations of Element Composite
Element includes added Light Skin for durability, which brings a modest increase in weight and cost compared to the film-only E-Tech version. For day racers or programs without offshore mileage, E-Tech may offer the same performance without the extra skin. But for boats expecting real miles and real wear, Element provides the highest-performing offshore-ready Code Zero solution we offer.
