E-Tech Composite is the lightest membrane sail we offer at Evolution, purpose-built for performance in light air and weight-sensitive applications. Constructed using our EM2 membrane platform, E-Tech blends a high percentage of carbon with aramid fibers in a film-on-film laminate for maximum shape retention and minimum weight.
Each sail is custom-engineered with fiber layouts tailored to the sail’s use—delivering exceptional performance for Code Zeros, light-air headsails, and inshore racing sails. Unlike traditional constructions, our in-house membrane process allows carbon fibers to “float” within the laminate, maintaining flexibility and reducing brittleness—something few, if any, other lofts can offer at this weight and price point.
Who Should Use E-Tech
E-Tech is ideal for any sailor looking for the lightest possible sail without sacrificing structure or performance. Its ultra-lightweight construction makes it perfect for Code Zeros, light-air jibs, and high-performance inshore sails where every ounce matters.
In addition to being the lightest sail in our lineup, E-Tech is also our most budget-friendly composite membrane—making it an accessible choice for club racers and competitive sailors who want membrane performance without membrane pricing. And because we use carbon as a standard component—not a costly upgrade—E-Tech delivers elite shape-holding at a fraction of the cost of traditional panel layouts.
E-Tech’s Limitations
E-Tech’s film-only construction is not intended for sails that will see heavy flogging, rough handling, or repeated reefing. While it excels in weight-sensitive applications, it’s not built for durability in harsh conditions.
For sailors who expect more demanding use, we recommend upgrading to Element Composite or Expedition Composite, which include woven or Lite Skin taffeta as part of the construction for added protection and improved handling—without sacrificing performance.
