Cruising Dacron Cross-Cut Sail Range
Crosscut Cruising Dacron is the most widely used sailcloth in the world. The classic white sails with long, rectangular panels can be seen in harbors everywhere, a testament to their reliability and efficiency.
This sail construction method takes advantage of both the natural weave and inherent strength of woven sailcloth. By aligning the fabric’s strongest fibers with the primary vertical loads of the sail, crosscut designs optimize durability and shape retention. The long, rectangular panels also maximize material efficiency, minimizing waste and keeping costs down.
While more advanced materials and construction techniques can produce sails that are lighter or stretch less, many sailors find that the added expense isn’t justified for their needs. The combination of simplicity, durability, and cost-effectiveness makes Crosscut Cruising Dacron the go-to choice for sailors worldwide.

Headsail Sailcloth: Contender Fibercon Pro High Aspect
- Durability: ⭐⭐⭐⭐
- Weight: ⭐⭐⭐
- Performance: ⭐⭐⭐
- Water Wicking: ⭐⭐⭐
- Handling: ⭐⭐⭐⭐
- Cost: ⭐⭐⭐
For sailors seeking a durable yet performance-driven sailcloth, Contender Fibercon Pro High Aspect is designed to meet the demands of tall, narrow sails that generate high loads. Engineered with an exceptionally high thread density, this sailcloth optimizes fill strength and resistance to elongation, ensuring superior shape retention over time.
With a fill/warp ratio ranging from 2.8:1 to 4.0:1, Fibercon Pro High Aspect effectively aligns the strongest fibers to support the vertical loads of mainsails and jibs on high-aspect rigs. This construction enhances upwind performance while maintaining the durability and longevity that cruising sailors expect from woven polyester.
Why Choose Contender Fibercon Pro High Aspect?
This cloth is ideal for:
- Sailors looking for enhanced upwind performance while maintaining durability.
- Cruising sailors who want better shape retention and performance without moving to laminate sails.
- Owners prioritizing durability, UV resistance, and longevity in their sail investment.
Limitations of Contender Fibercon Pro High Aspect
If you want a sailcloth that delivers better shape retention, higher strength, and superior UV resistance than standard Dacron, Fibercon is an excellent choice. It’s best suited for:
- Coastal cruisers looking for increased durability and longevity.
- Performance-oriented sailors who want improved shape retention without moving to laminates.
- Boats with high or low aspect sails, needing a cloth specifically engineered for their rig type.
Limitations of Fibercon
While Fibercon Pro High Aspect provides excellent stability and stretch resistance for woven polyester, it does not eliminate stretch entirely. For sailors requiring ultra-low stretch and the highest performance, a laminate or composite sailcloth may be a better option.
For those looking for a balance of strength, shape retention, and durability, Fibercon Pro High Aspect remains one of the best options available for high-aspect cruising sails.
