Built on the EM2 membrane platform, Element combines a custom carbon and aramid fiber matrix with integrated Lite Skin taffeta for added durability, chafe resistance, and better handling—all without compromising weight or speed.
What sets Element apart is our proprietary membrane construction process. Unlike many lofts that use carbon as an upgrade or blend it sparingly, Evolution incorporates a high percentage of carbon fiber as standard. Our unique lamination technique allows the carbon to float within the membrane, reducing brittleness and increasing long-term resilience—ensuring Element sails stay fast and reliable, season after season.
Who Should Use Element
Element Composite sails are built for versatility. Whether you’re racing around the buoys, competing in distance races, or need a rugged performance sail for mixed use, Element fits the bill. It’s used by club racers, offshore competitors, and top-level programs that need a durable membrane with grand prix-level performance.
We particularly recommend Element for high-load sails like jibs and mainsails that may be reefed or used in demanding conditions. The internal structure can be customized to reinforce reef points and high-stress zones as if they were part of the original sail plan, giving Element a major advantage over traditional cloth constructions.
Element Composite’s Limitations
Element is built for performance-focused sailing. While Lite Skin adds durability, Element is still a racing-grade sail. For offshore sailors prioritizing maximum wear resistance and long-term cruising durability, our Expedition Composite sails—with heavier-duty materials and full cruising taffetas—may be a better fit.
For most racing and performance applications, however, Element hits the ideal balance between speed, strength, and adaptability.
