PXB Lite Skin (LS) is a triradial polyester laminate from Dimension-Polyant, engineered for sailors who want more performance and durability than Dacron without the cost or complexity of high-end racing laminates. Built on a base of high-tenacity polyester yarns, PXB LS provides solid shape retention and low stretch for its class, while maintaining a responsive, smooth feel on the water.
The outer surface is coated with “Light Skin,” a lightweight black polyester taffeta that adds UV resistance, abrasion protection, and handling durability. This finish increases the sail’s longevity while reducing film degradation—ideal for sails that get flaked, flogged, or used frequently in variable conditions. The result is a durable, high-performing cloth that bridges the gap between club racing and coastal cruising.
Who Should Use PXB Light Skin
PXB LS is a great fit for club racers, performance cruisers, and sailors who want a step up from Dacron without jumping to exotic laminates. It’s especially effective for boats under 40 feet, where durability, sail shape, and affordability all matter.
Ideal applications include mainsails, jibs, and genoas that see a mix of racing and day sailing, or repeated handling. The Light Skin layer adds ruggedness for sailors who regularly tack, flake, or store sails on deck. PXB LS is also a great value—it costs only slightly more than Dacron but provides a noticeable boost in performance and durability, making it significantly more affordable than most other laminate options on the market.
PXB Light Skin’s Limitations
While PXB LS offers better shape retention and toughness than woven Dacron, it is still a polyester-based laminate and carries some limitations. It does not have the stretch resistance of carbon or aramid-based fabrics, and performance may degrade over time under high loads or in large sailplans.
For boats over 40 feet, or for high-end racing programs where sail shape and low stretch are critical across a full season, more advanced materials may be warranted. And while the Light Skin adds durability, it also adds some weight and stiffness, which can affect sail handling slightly compared to film-only laminates.
Overall, PXB LS is a smart middle-ground option—high value and reliable for sailors balancing performance, cost, and durability.
